“Leadership Las Vegas, Class of 2016 Announced, Partner Craig Newby of McDonald Carano Selected”

49 Community & Civic Leaders Selected to Participate in Leadership Las Vegas, Southern Nevada’s Premier Executive Development Program

After an incredibly competitive application process, the Las Vegas Metro Chamber of Commerce Foundation is pleased to announce the 2016 class of Leadership Las Vegas, Southern Nevada’s premier community leadership development program.

Forty-nine  individuals from the public and private sectors were chosen out of hundreds of applicants to engage in a 10-month comprehensive program designed for participants to enhance leadership skills, develop deep awareness and understanding of the community and join a network of engaged leaders.

“We could not be more delighted with the group chosen for the 2016 class of Leadership Las Vegas,” said Kristin McMillan, president and CEO of the Metro Chamber.  “Leadership Las Vegas is designed to educate and engage leaders across Southern Nevada and inspire them to play a role in making this community a better place.  Each of the individuals selected for  the program this year has demonstrated dedication to our community and we look forward to advancing their engagement even further over this 10-month process.”

The Leadership Las Vegas class of 2016 came together for the first time at Nellis Air Force Base for a unique retreat, setting the stage for a year of in-depth conversations, paradigm-shifting experiences and intensive review of current issues and topics in Southern Nevada.  During the next 10 months, the class of 2016 will explore the region’s history, learn the inner-working’s of the Silver State’s government, take a look  into the valley’s criminal justice and healthcare systems, get a sense of the community’s various social safety net programs and much more, in an effort to understand the challenges and opportunities facing Southern Nevada.

Since 1986, Leadership Las Vegas has graduated more than 1,200 participants, many of whom have gone on to the top of their industry and moved into significant roles in community organizations and government.  Distinguished Leadership Las Vegas alumni include former US Congressman Steven Horsford, MGM Resorts International President Bill Hornbuckle, New York-New York President Cynthia Kiser-Murphy, Las Vegas City Councilman Bob Beers, Clark County Commissioner Larry Brown and District Court Judge Linda Bell, among many others.

The premier executive development program in Southern Nevada, Leadership Las Vegas aims to provide the Las Vegas Valley with an ongoing source of diverse community and civic leaders who are prepared and dedicated to serving as catalysts for positive change and growth in our community.  Through lectures, discussions, on-site visits, simulations, projects and other leadership development activities, Leadership Las Vegas class members receive in-depth exposure to the critical issues facing Southern Nevada and are challenged to apply their talents towards those issues.

The Leadership Las Vegas program is overseen by The Leadership Institute of Las Vegas, an initiative of the Las Vegas Metro Chamber of Commerce Foundation. The Leadership Institute of Las Vegas instructs and develops community and business leaders towards paths of servant leadership to benefit their businesses and the community at large.

Applications for the class of 2017 will be available after the first of the year.  For more information visit Leadership.Vegas .
